This is a collaborative art piece created by Hillary Kirk and Jillian Ramsay. The project was to create a social action piece of art that we could turn into an art project for students in our class. We think that this collaborative performance piece fits well into the grade nine curriculum because it meets the curriculum criteria. It meets the goals of specific learning objectives such as continuing to develop problem-solving skills and decision-making abilities. Students would do this by deciding where to create and place their piece of artwork, all the while working collaboratively. Students will also demonstrate their ability to use on-going reflection and critical analysis to clarify their artistic intentions and consider how their work might be interpreted by the audience. This will hopefully happen for the students during the physical build or performance of the piece. This could mean answering questions from a viewer if it is a performance piece, or reflecting on themselves in a social context situation, for example a controversial post they put on social media. Another learning objective that we would hope students achieve during this project would be to continue challenging themselves to take risks, attempt to solve problems, and learn in new ways. This is a big part of this project because students might not feel completely comfortable going into a public setting and creating a piece of art. In order to achieve this, they might need to talk about things beforehand and figure out a way in which they would be comfortable creating something publicly.
